Nordstrom signals long-term confidence in downtown Seattle retail with store relocation at Pine Street

Seattle, Washington – In order to maintain its long-standing presence in the neighborhood where the business was established more than a century ago, Nordstrom, Inc. intends to relocate its Nordstrom Rack Downtown Seattle store to a new location in the center of the city. The off-price store will move to 601 Pine St. and open in the spring of 2027, according to the Seattle-based business.

Inside a historic structure at the intersection of Pine Street and Sixth Avenue, the new Nordstrom Rack will take up around 39,000 square feet. Joanna Callahan and Mike Hess, a local partnership, are the owners of the property. The location is in Seattle’s main retail district, which has witnessed constant attempts to draw and keep big-box stores as the city’s downtown develops.

According to company executives, the change aims to give customers better access and a better overall purchasing experience. Shoppers will find it easier to visit while traveling downtown thanks to the Pine Street location’s direct street-level entry. Customers will have access to online order pickup for purchases made on Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, as well as easier return policies, in addition to in-store shopping.

According to Gemma Lionello, president of Nordstrom Rack, the new location demonstrates the company’s ongoing dedication to Seattle.

“We’re excited to welcome customers to our beautiful new downtown Seattle location, which features convenient street access and an enhanced shopping experience,” said Lionello in a press release.

“Seattle has been our company’s home for more than a century, and we’re proud to continue serving this community with our selection of great brands at great prices. Customers can also take advantage of services like online order pickup from Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, along with easy returns.”

Landing Nordstrom Rack as a tenant is a significant step in revitalizing a major downtown corner, according to the building’s ownership group. In order to create a vibrant mix of tenants that enhances the surrounding retail environment, the partnership intends to add more merchants and enterprises to the building.

Operating as Nordstrom, Inc.’s off-price branch, Nordstrom Rack is crucial in acquainting new consumers with the larger Nordstrom brand. The shop frequently features brands that are also available at full-line Nordstrom stores and gives discounts of up to 70% on a variety of items.

Beyond cost, the Rack model places a strong emphasis on convenience, connecting online and in-store purchasing with options like simple returns and online pickup.

Currently, Nordstrom operates twelve Nordstrom Rack locations and six full-line Nordstrom stores throughout the state of Washington. These stores collectively provide employment for almost 2,450 people around the state, demonstrating the company’s economic influence in its home state. The move to downtown Seattle strengthens the company’s belief in the retail future of the city while also increasing that presence.

Nordstrom began as a little shoe company in 1901 and has since expanded to become a nationwide retailer with hundreds of stores and a robust online presence.

The company claims that despite shifts in the retail industry, its priorities remain connectivity, flexibility, and customer service. Another chapter in that history will begin with the planned relocation to Pine Street, which will allow Nordstrom Rack to remain firmly established in downtown Seattle while adjusting to shifting consumer preferences.
