A new Trader Joe's store is scheduled to open in Seattle this Friday after years of waiting and several community appeals

Seattle, Washington – A new Trader Joe’s store is scheduled to open in Seattle this Friday after years of waiting and several community appeals. Located amid the recently built Hemlock Apartments at the intersection of 87th and Greenwood, this is the first new Trader Joe’s store in the city in more than ten years.

The journey to this opening has been a winding one, filled with persistent community interest and delayed confirmations. Washington Holdings built the Hemlock, converting the location of an old Safeway into a contemporary residential building in 2024.

Known for its unusual items and community-oriented attitude, Trader Joe’s has been a beloved institution. In keeping with its dedication to giving back, the Greenwood store will join the Neighborhood Shares Program of the business. This program guarantees that every unsold item still suitable for consumption is given to charities and community-based groups rather than thrown away.
