Downtown parking garage becomes scene of deadly violence as Seattle investigators examine how late-night dispute led to fatal shooting
Seattle, Washington – Seattle police are working to piece together what happened during a deadly shooting that unfolded early Sunday morning in the heart of downtown. The incident drew a large law enforcement response and left one person dead and several others injured after gunfire erupted inside a parking garage.
According to Seattle PD, officers were dispatched shortly after 1:30 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Second Avenue, near the Sinking Ship parking garage. When patrol officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Seattle Fire Department crews responded quickly but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As officers secured the area, they learned that multiple people had been hurt during the same incident. One man sustained life-threatening injuries and was treated by firefighters before being transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Two women were also injured by gunfire. One was treated at the scene for a graze wound and taken to the hospital in stable condition, while another later arrived at the hospital with a similar injury and was also listed as stable.
Detectives investigating the case said preliminary information indicates the violence began with a physical altercation inside the parking garage. That confrontation escalated, eventually leading to a gunfight involving multiple individuals. Investigators have not released details about what sparked the initial fight or how many weapons were involved.
No suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting itself. However, police confirmed that two people were arrested following disturbances that occurred after the incident, as officers worked to secure the scene and control the area.
The block surrounding the parking garage was cordoned off for several hours as homicide detectives and crime scene investigators conducted their work. Evidence was collected and the scene was documented as part of the ongoing investigation. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will assume custody of the victim and is expected to determine the official cause and manner of death.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could help detectives identify those responsible to come forward. Tips can be submitted to the Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000, and anonymous information is accepted.
